- Most of the country sits on the world's largest river delta, where the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna braid together before emptying into the Bay of Bengal.
- The Sundarbans, the planet's largest mangrove forest, straddles its southern coast and shelters the elusive Bengal tigers that swim between its tidal islands.
- Bengali is one of the few languages with a national holiday born from a fight to speak it, the 1952 movement that inspired UNESCO's International Mother Language Day.
