Things worth knowing
- Lake Victoria, the world's largest tropical lake and Africa's biggest by area, laps Uganda's southern shore alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
- The White Nile begins its long journey at Jinja, where the river spills out of Lake Victoria and heads north toward Egypt.
- Though it straddles the equator, much of Uganda is a cool, fertile plateau over a kilometre high, which helped earn it Churchill's tag the 'Pearl of Africa'.
