Things worth knowing
- Malaysia is divided into two halves separated by hundreds of kilometres of sea: the peninsula bordering Thailand, and a slice of Borneo shared with Indonesia and Brunei.
- Its rainforests on Borneo are among the oldest on Earth, far predating the Amazon and home to the orangutan, whose name means 'person of the forest' in Malay.
- The constitution rotates the throne, electing a new king every five years from among nine hereditary state rulers, a system found nowhere else in the world.

The world's largest flower, Rafflesia, blooms in Malaysia's jungles to nearly a metre wide and smells of rotting meat to lure pollinating flies.
