Currency Converter: Price Lens

Scan price tags, check card fees and convert 160+ currencies, even offline.

What it does

PocketRates is a currency converter that also reads the price in front of you. Point Price Lens at a price tag, a menu or a receipt and see the amount in your home currency. Then check what your card or the payment terminal wants to charge against an independent reference rate, so you see the markup before you tap Pay.

Highlights

  • Price Lens: reads prices on tags, menus and receipts on your device; ambiguous symbols such as $ or ¥ are never guessed silently
  • True Cost: extra cost as an amount and a percentage, with a plain verdict and a reminder to pick the local currency at the terminal
  • 160+ currencies, plus major cryptocurrencies and precious metals
  • Calculator and compare: expressions in the amount field and several currencies side by side
  • History and alerts: rate charts and periodic rate alerts for a target rate
  • Trip ledger: log spending abroad, see the total in your home currency, export CSV and share a recap
  • Your own rate: type the rate your exchange office or card actually gave you
  • Dated rates: provider and date shown next to every rate; saved rates work without a connection

Made for

  • Travelers checking a price or a card quote abroad
  • Anyone who wants to see the markup on a foreign card payment
  • Keeping a simple record of what a trip really cost

Frequently asked questions

Does the exchange rate calculator work offline?
Yes, on the last saved rates. The date of those rates is always on screen. Crypto rates refresh separately and may be missing offline.
How do I check a foreign transaction fee?
Open True Cost, enter the local price and the amount you are charged, add the bank fee if you know it, and read the difference in money and percent.
Is this my bank's rate?
No. It is an independent daily reference rate to compare your card's rate against. Your issuer may settle at a later date's rate or add charges the app cannot know in advance.
Does Price Lens upload my photos?
No. Text recognition runs on your device.
Is PocketRates free? Is Pro a subscription?
Converting is free and needs no account; the free version shows ads and Price Lens has a scan limit that a rewarded ad lifts for one hour. Pro is a single purchase, not a subscription. It removes ads and raises limits, including unlimited scans, alerts and trips, custom rates and longer history.
